Ollin Tlahtoalli Center is a non profit organization that offers Spanish as a Second Language Courses and Programs which explore Mexican culture. All teachers at Ollin Center hold teaching certificates at the BA and Masters´level from Oaxaca State University and have five to ten years of teaching experience.
We provide free English lessons to Oaxacan artisans, work with children in the communities on art and language workshops and promote the preservation of oral history in Oaxacan communities. Omar Núñez, Director of the Center, motivates his Oaxacan and international students to volunteer and participate in these projects.
Omar Núñez Méndez is founder and director of the Center. He is a Fulbright scholar and holds a Master´s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Omar Nunez has been a professor of Spanish, English and Intercultural Studies at his center and in different institutes and universities in the state of Oaxaca. He is a Linguistics and Psycholinguistics professor at Oaxaca State University and combines his teaching responsabilities with his projects on the preservation of Oral Tradition and the reinforcement of indigenous children´s identity in three different communities in Oaxaca. Professor Núñez collaborates with different organizations in Oaxaca and with institutions in the U.S. and Canada where he has been invited to share some of his current work.
