Community Programs
We work with children in Oaxacan communities on projects to re-affirm their indigenous identity through art (visit our blog Así Somos: Comunidad), we provide free English lessons to Oaxacan artisans so that they can sell their art directly to visitors, and promote the preservation of oral history through documentary projects.
Omar Núñez, native of Oaxaca and the Founding-Director of Ollin Center, motivates his Oaxacan and international students to volunteer and participate in these projects. He is a Fulbright scholar and holds a Master´s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Omar Nunez has been a professor of Spanish, English and Intercultural Studies at his center and in different institutes and universities in the state of Oaxaca. He combines his teaching responsabilities with his projects on the preservation of Oral Tradition and the reinforcement of indigenous children´s identity in three different communities in Oaxaca. Professor Núñez collaborates with different organizations in Oaxaca and with institutions in the U.S. and Canada where he has been invited to share some of his current work.
By choosing Ollin Tlahtoalli you support our various programs in different indigenous communities.
